Day 5: Bubpha Mekong Guesthouse (BMG) Huay Hae Village – Champassak 14km
This stage, besides being short, should be placed in the top 3 of the Mekong Bamboo Trek and (also) if you visit Champasak, I can only recommend again that you cover it as a two-day hike (round trip), the overnight stay at Bubpha Mekong Guesthouse, facing the river, being part of the experience.
From the path, a barrier gives the impression that the guesthouse is closed.
No no! Pamouane, the lady of the house, is definitely there. Slide the barrier to the side and step in.
Radiant, this adorable lady is proud of her establishment. She welcomes her hikers and cycle tourists into a sparkling inn with ten rooms whose rates remain within the range of the most demanding backpackers.
A limited but perfectly sufficient menu (card), a pergola, and balconies—nothing better for relaxing your feet at the end of the day, with a beer in your mug.
She also offers loop circuits for walking or cycle touring that reach Don Daeng before returning to the guesthouse. An unquestionably enjoyable extra day… (which I did not take).
